promise
i was careless
leaving, the door open.
in you came
whilst i was out.
you made my hovel
your home.
you warmed it
brought in your light
to lighten the halls.
you changed it
from ragged
morbid gloom,
to a bastion
of euphoric radiance.
i returned,
distraught.
i went in
unaware of your presence.
i threw myself in bed,
wishing to i would end.
there you were,
laying beside me.
smiling, yours eyes twitched.
you stared, dazed.
"baby," you said, throwing your arms around me,
"never leave, please."
cautiously i replied,
tears swelling,
"i wont."
